Nurses play an essential role in the healthcare industry. But beyond the walls of hospitals and clinics, there are nurses who have found a unique niche: traveling with nurse agencies. Today, I had the pleasure of speaking with April Jernigan, an experienced traveling nurse with Accountable, about the perks of her job.
Accountable: April, thanks for joining us today. Can you first tell us how long you’ve been a traveling nurse?
April: Absolutely! I’ve been traveling for about five years now. Time flies when you’re constantly on the move!
Accountable: That sounds exciting. What made you choose this path?
April: Well, I’ve always had a passion for nursing and a love for traveling. Combining the two just felt right. Traveling with Accountable allowed me to merge my career with my wanderlust.
Accountable: What would you say are the biggest perks of traveling as a nurse?”
April: Oh, where to start? Firstly, I get to see different parts of the country – and sometimes even the world. Each assignment feels like a mini-vacation. Secondly, I meet new people and experience different healthcare systems, which really broadens my perspective as a nurse.
Accountable: Has traveling benefited your career in any way?
April: Definitely! I’ve gained diverse experiences in different environments, which has made me more adaptable. Every new place has its unique challenges, and overcoming them has made me a stronger nurse.
Accountable: Many people might think that being on the move can be exhausting. How do you handle the constant change?
April: It can be a bit overwhelming at times, but Accountable ensures smooth transitions. They handle the accommodations, and often, I find myself staying in really comfortable places. Plus, the excitement of a new city always outweighs the fatigue.
Accountable: Do you ever miss the stability of working in one place?
April: Sometimes. But the beauty of being a traveling nurse is the flexibility. If I ever feel the need to settle down for a bit, I can. But for now, the thrill of the next adventure keeps me going.
Accountable: Lastly, any advice for nurses considering this path?
April: Be open-minded and adaptable. Every place will have its own set of challenges, but it’s all part of the journey. And if you love both nursing and traveling, there’s no better way to experience the best of both worlds.
Traveling with Accountable, as April shared, is an exciting journey filled with opportunities for growth, adventure, and learning. For those with a passion for nursing and a love for travel, it’s a perfect match. Safe travels!
